Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

“I made the wrong choice”
I bought this book a long time ago, but I wanted to read it in the summer. So I let it stare at me in the bookcase but it was so worth the wait!
Lina is send to Florence after her mother died to find out more about the time her mother lived there, with a journal her mother wrote. It was such a sweet and beautiful story, I wish I could go back, the food, the fun and even the sadness. The book was based on a sad topic but it made me so happy, so content. I could totally relate to the feelings Lina described about the places she visited in Florence, because I went there as well. It was so magical.
I love the way it is written, because you slowly get to know a little bit more every time. First you read about Lina’s experiences and the way she feels and then you read a bit from the journa,l about what her mom experienced, in some way it collides, which is just breathtaking. Line gets to know her mom in a totally different way, and I love it that Lina has the opportunity to relive her mom most amazing moments.

Even though it’s sad it feels really special and precious. I believe this quote from the book truly says it all:
“You know people come to Italy for all sorts of reasons, but when they stay it’s for the same two things.” “What?” “Love & Gelato.”
